The menopause can be a confusing time for many. This talk by Dr Emma O'Donnell will provide an overview of the data from Loughborough female staff going through the menopausal transition. Because more information on brain problems (memory issues, brain fog, fatigue, mood changes, irritability and less stress resilience etc) was requested, Prof Eef Hogervorst will provide information on what this entails, why it could be related to the menopause (or midlife in general) and how it can be treated with evidence based lifestyle choices. Emma and Eef will then show some of the resources they have developed together with Sweet Bob-Nabena, Gemma Towle and Henrietta Pocock, which will be available on Learn.

After this session, Dr Zoe Schaedel from Myla Health, a GP and British Menopause Society Registered Menopause Specialist, will talk about “Menopause: Everything You Need to Know.” Menopause affects every woman, and this session provides a comprehensive introduction to perimenopause and menopause, including symptoms, treatment options, and sources of support. It will clarify misconceptions and equip all attendees with the knowledge to better understand this life stage—whether for themselves, their colleagues, or the people they care about. Zoe will also highlight the importance of good sleep for mood, memory and overall wellbeing, sharing practical strategies to improve sleep during menopause. Following her talk, there will be an opportunity to ask questions directly and gain personalised insights from a menopause expert.

Organised as part of Menopause Awareness Month 2025 by the MAIA Women's Staff Network.
